Section 3: Competition Area


  1. Each contest area should be 12 m x 12 m and shall be covered by tatamis, generally green in colour or in any other acceptable colour.
     
  2. The contest area shall be divided into two zones.
  3. The fighting area shall always be 8m x 8m.

  4. The area outside the fighting area shall be called the safety area and shall be at least 2m wide.
     
  5. Where two or more adjoining competition areas are used, a common safety area is not permitted.
     
  6. In exceptional cases, for international tournaments a fighting area of minimal 6m x 6m is allowed.

  7. In exceptional cases, there should be the possibility to share part of the safety area, but between two fighting areas the must be at least 3m.
